About the Artwork
Metaphor of Life – 20 is an original 48 × 72 inch abstract painting on canvas by Indian contemporary artist Apurva Singh, inspired by an aerial view of Banaras (Varanasi).
Rather than depicting the city literally, the painting transforms the visual character of Banaras into an expressive abstract composition. Seen from above, the dense urban landscape, winding pathways, architectural structures and constantly moving life of the ancient city become a network of overlapping forms, fragmented shapes and expressive lines.
The dominant palette of turquoise, teal, blue and green, accented with touches of soft pink, coral, yellow and white, creates the feeling of a living city seen through an atmospheric and emotional lens. Layers of colour and gestural marks suggest the complexity of Banaras while allowing the viewer to experience the city without being restricted to a literal representation.
The aerial perspective is particularly important to the work. Instead of focusing on individual buildings or landmarks, Apurva Singh captures the overall rhythm and visual density of Banaras—its interconnected spaces, movement, architecture and organic flow. The result is a contemporary interpretation of one of India's most culturally significant cities.
Measuring 48 × 72 inches, this large-scale original canvas artwork is suited to contemporary interiors, luxury residences, hotels, cultural spaces, corporate collections and private art collections.
For collectors interested in Indian contemporary art, abstract representations of Banaras, Varanasi-inspired artwork and large original paintings, the work offers a contemporary perspective on the visual identity of the historic city.
