Metaphor of Life 17

About the Artwork

Metaphor of Life – 17 is an original contemporary abstract painting by Indian artist Apurva Singh, exploring the complexity, movement and interconnectedness of life through an intricate language of colour, form and expressive line.

The painting is dominated by a rich spectrum of deep blue, turquoise, teal and green, punctuated with accents of olive, yellow, ochre and earthy brown. The cool colour palette creates an immersive atmosphere, while the warmer fragments introduce moments of energy and visual contrast.

Across the surface, numerous fragmented forms overlap and intersect. Some appear architectural, while others suggest organic or human-like shapes. These forms are deliberately left open to interpretation, allowing the viewer to move between impressions of landscape, architecture, people and abstract structures.

Fine, spontaneous lines weave through the larger colour fields, creating an underlying network that holds the composition together. The interaction between these delicate lines and stronger blocks of colour gives the work a feeling of constant movement and transformation.

The vertical format reinforces this sense of upward and downward flow. Layers seem to accumulate as the eye travels through the painting, reflecting the way experiences, memories, relationships and environments gradually build the landscape of our lives.

Rather than representing a specific place or object, Metaphor of Life – 17 transforms the familiar into an abstract visual experience. The painting encourages the viewer to discover their own associations within its shifting forms and layered spaces.

Apurva Singh's expressive approach combines contemporary abstraction, gestural drawing, layered colour and fragmented forms, creating a work that is both visually complex and meditative.
