Metaphor of Life 15

About the Artwork

Metaphor of Life – 15 is an original 16 × 16 inch contemporary mixed-media painting on canvas by Indian contemporary artist Apurva Singh.

The work explores the idea of life as a constantly evolving network of forms, connections, experiences and memories. A vibrant palette of turquoise, deep blue, teal and green dominates the composition, complemented by olive, lime, ochre and carefully placed gold leaf.

Fragmented organic and geometric forms overlap across the canvas, creating a layered visual environment in which individual shapes seem to emerge, connect and dissolve. Expressive black lines move freely through the composition, introducing an energetic network of gestures beneath and across the painted forms.

The use of gold leaf adds an important material and visual dimension to the work. Against the predominantly cool blue-green palette, the gold creates subtle points of luminosity, catching the light and drawing attention to selected forms within the composition. These reflective passages introduce a sense of warmth, value and transformation without overpowering the overall balance of the painting.

The contrast between the cool colours, earthy accents and reflective gold creates a dialogue between nature and structure, movement and stillness, the tangible and the ephemeral.

The painting does not depict a single identifiable subject. Instead, its interconnected forms suggest how experiences, relationships and memories accumulate and continually reshape our perception of life. The viewer can discover different associations within the shifting forms and layered marks.

At 16 × 16 inches, the square format gives the work an intimate presence while allowing the detailed linework, layered surfaces and gold-leaf accents to reveal themselves through close viewing.

Through its combination of contemporary abstraction, expressive drawing, layered colour and gold-leaf detailing, Metaphor of Life – 15 becomes both a visual exploration and a tactile meditation on the constantly changing nature of life.
