Metaphor of Life 14

About the Artwork

Metaphor of Life – 14 is an original 16 × 16 inch contemporary abstract painting on canvas by Indian contemporary artist Apurva Singh.

The painting explores the layered nature of emotion, memory and human experience through a dense composition of fragmented forms, expressive marks and overlapping colour fields. Deep burgundy, maroon, plum and earthy brown tones form the underlying structure, while accents of coral, terracotta, muted pink, lavender, orange and warm grey create moments of contrast and visual movement.

Across the surface, loosely defined forms appear to emerge, overlap and dissolve. There is no single recognisable subject; instead, the painting creates an abstract environment in which shapes can suggest fragments of people, spaces, gestures or memories. Fine dark lines move through the composition like traces of thought, connecting individual forms and adding another layer of complexity.

The darker palette gives the work an introspective character, while the brighter coral, orange and lavender marks introduce moments of warmth and emotional energy. This contrast between darkness and light, density and openness, structure and spontaneity becomes an important part of the visual experience.

The painting reflects the idea that life is composed of accumulated fragments—experiences, relationships, memories and emotions that continuously overlap and reshape our perception. Forms are never completely fixed; they remain in a state of transformation.

The 16 × 16 inch square format creates an intimate viewing experience, encouraging the viewer to move closer and discover the smaller gestures, lines and layers embedded within the composition.

Through expressive mark-making and layered abstraction, Metaphor of Life – 14 presents a personal meditation on the complexity and ambiguity of lived experience.
