About the Artwork
Cognition – 3 is an original contemporary abstract painting by Indian artist Apurva Singh, exploring the complex relationship between thought, perception, memory and the subconscious mind.
The composition develops through an intense interplay of burnt orange, ochre, warm yellow, red, white, muted violet and earthy tones. These colours move across the surface in layers, creating an environment that feels simultaneously energetic and contemplative.
At the heart of the work is a dense accumulation of gestural lines, fragmented forms and overlapping structures. Some forms appear clearly defined before dissolving into the surrounding layers, reflecting the way thoughts often emerge, connect, overlap and disappear within the human mind.
The large areas of warm colour create moments of visual stillness, while the densely worked passages introduce tension and movement. This contrast between open space and concentrated marks gives the painting its psychological character.
Rather than illustrating a particular object or narrative, Cognition – 3 approaches the mind as an abstract landscape. The painting invites the viewer to look beyond recognisable forms and experience the work through colour, rhythm, texture and visual association.
Apurva Singh's approach combines contemporary abstraction, expressive mark-making and layered mixed-media techniques, creating a work that can be experienced differently with every viewing.
The artwork is particularly suited to modern and luxury interiors, private collections, contemporary art spaces, offices and curated residential environments, where its warm palette can become a strong visual focal point.
